I have for some years been trying to possibly improve science teaching by thinking through exercises which use the processes of science to do their own original thinking or creativity on problems outside of the laboratory. This is so that they can really say “ I own my science abilities ” . A Eureka moment would be wonderful.
Trouble is, being retired and with no young children around I have no ‘ test-bed ’
If you are a teacher(or a parent with kids) it would be great if you could try the following exercise and report back. If you are not a teacher but want to help please say what you think of the chances of this improving life in the homes of any country, and whether you wish you had had this kind of science teaching.
Write a report and/or give a presentation of your original idea for a device or process that improves the tidiness of your own family home in any way. It must be tested out on real people, collecting feedback on practicality and feelings. It will be obvious from your report that it is YOU that has done the majority of work and thinking especially the core idea. Marks will be allocated for self criticism. They will be deducted for obvious parent help.
