Mostly lurking for now because I end up clicking on links and falling into internet rabbit holes.
So...
Hi, y'all! I have a BA in anthropology. Some argue that it's a science. I think it's a discipline that cherry picks from science and then makes highly informed guesses. Maybe it's a science/humanities hybrid. I'd like to go back to school and concentrate more on the archaeology side of things. Maybe being older and closer to death, I prefer to spend more time with people I can relate to. Ahdunno. Maybe I just like digging up stuff.
Anyway. Hi! Nice to meet y'all.
Welcome to the group. On the digging up stuff, last summer we visited the Orkneys, Scotland. One of the highlights of the trip was spending a day at the Ness of Brodgar when there was an active dig going on. Got a tour with the site archaeologist. They were learning lots of new things.
Can certainly see why you might like to dig up stuff.
That sounds fascinating. Glad you got to see it in action. Some of the most interesting archy stuff is happening in that part of the world.
As for the doing...It's relaxing. I can lose myself in microplaning layers away from what I hope are diagnostic artifacts.
Nice tomeet you! I hope you enjoy the site and hanging with our science group.
Thanks for the warm welcome! I am enjoying it so much. When I have something of substance to add, I'll post it. With anth, it's mostly "O beautiful for specious skies..." and so on.
Welcome. Your job sounds fascinating.
Thanks! I actually work in the mental health end of human behavior stuff. My thesis research was bifurcated between a specific area of trauma recovery and an unrelated material culture study. Now that I'm older, I'm more drawn to the material culture end and archy.
Posted by racocn8I saw some articles on meteorite composition and ended up with this picture.
