Well, I had an interesting Sunday. I have my group of
friends that are ladies. We all have different backgrounds and beliefs. I'm of course the only Athiest out of the group. There's a new kid on the block another Muslim, but this one was different.
She was delightful company, we were all sharing gardening information, we talked makeup and so on. We all loved her, we all blended great.
She had to go to my friends room because she does the 5 times a day praying ritual.
So we started to enjoy our wine coolers and our cocktails. When she came out of the room, we were all enjoying our drinks. She came to my friend and asked her if she would tell everyone else, to either leave the living room or leave the patio area outside. That its against her religion to consume alcohol and be away from it completely. Everyone was very accommodating, except me. As far as my friend is concerned, her house is my house.
I was not about to put my drink down, and I was not about to move. Everyone else went outside to the patio. And we were just doing regular conversation.
I said look, you came to this gathering knowing there's going to be alcohol involved and pork.
You don't think that you're a bit unreasonable ? Why can't you keep your religion at home like the rest of us, and enjoy the party and enjoy your new friends, or I think that you're the one that should stay outside because we were inside first.
So is your god not on accommodating God ? She said, you're right.
Any updates?
That was going to be my question too. The cliffhanger is killing me!
Something not right about her. Muslims are not to consume certain things but to be around it is allowed. In certain situations consuming is allowed as well. This may include pork and alcohol.
Yeah. Something off about this.
I've never known a Muslim to have issues with people eating those things or drinking alcohol.
Christians hol-rols and alcohol tho.....OMG!
Bring a keg to the church picnic.
They won't thank you. Trust me.
Not saying the Muslim thing couldn't happen though.
I have a Muslim friend that works at a liquor store...so.
I think it depends largely on the teachings of their imam. Plenty of Muslims work in shops that sell alcohol and pork - I asked the guy who ran the shop near where I used to live about it once, and he said "I'm not allowed to consume it, but there's nothing wrong with me selling it to others." I also often used to see a Muslim woman, who wore a hijab, in my local pub - she'd drink orange juice while her friends drank wine.
That was an unreasonable request.
Akin to a vegan demanding that no one else at a group restaurant meal eat meat.
Now, if she stays in the group and hosting is rotated it would be perfectly reasonable for her to ask that no one consumes alcohol or pork or shellfish in her home.
You go girl, well put. This is probably a good indicator of a fair few things. Like you already said she expects to be acknowledged, accepted and accommodated but didnt have the slightest bit of tact to go about it in an way that didn't impose herself on others. This is part of the totalitarian doctrine that makes it hard for Muslims to integrate worldwide. It's a good thing you spoke up you showed her what some people might think of her even though you was left to be the only adversary others might have had similar feelings. Hopefully when she said your right she ment it and didn't do it to make you seem aggressive. Perhaps she learnt something today, if she doesn't come back you know why lool.
Thank You
