I drove a truck for 23 years. For the life of me I can not understand how any woman driver of a truck could possibly be a conservative. It was liberals who opened up the industry to women not the conservatives. They would have you barefoot & pregnant in the kitchen making ham sandwiches for their superior, the Mister. I was told that trucking was no job for a woman & I was taking one away from a man who REALLY needed it. I, as a woman should have a man take care of me & I did not belong behind the wheel. I just want to understand women who side with the enemy of a woman's progress towards empowerment. The insults & challenges I endured were monumental but because I can give it as well as take it, I won the men over by not ever playing the menstrual card. Perhaps women today do not know of the struggle. Conservatives were never on our side. We were unable to own property, to vote, to have a beer at a tavern, to divorce, to take a battering spouse to court. We still can not safely walk a street unmolested. We were permitted to be prostitutes or school teachers. Go figure. No women police, fire fighters, doctors,clergy, lawyers, TRUCK DRIVERS. The progress we have made as women is due entirely to the progressive movement which began with the abolition of slavery.
