We had a march lead by the EDL today in Worcester city centre. 8 of them turned up, and to me, all of them looked like they had starred in an episode of the Jeremy Kyle show. They were proper chavy looking people. They were there to protest against a Mosque being built in the area. As a nonbeliever in anything supernatural I find it hard to not criticise religious ideas, however, this is very different to preventing someone from exercising their freedom to disagree with me, and would always support peoples rights to hold a religious belief.
What I found interesting however (and upsetting), is that I have family members (most of which are Christian) that seem to support this idea. I think one or two of them might actually be EDL supporters. Does anyone know anything of these people, as I struggle to see them as anything other than a scared, xenophobic, Islamophobic and ignorant hate filled organisation
The EDL is a xenophobic and racist organisation and as far as I can make out it appeals to the basest fears in a certain type of uneducated person who probably thinks of themself as an English patriot. I think as far as opposing the building of a new mosque is concerned, it is trying to bar the barn door after the horse has bolted! In Britain we have been too accommodating in allowing immigrants over many decades to not just practice their Muslim faith but to encourage them to do so. We have allowed the most extreme form of Islam to be preached with impunity and also allowed them to set up their own schools. We should have insisted that they fully integrated with our indigenous population, with the instruction of British customs and compulsory English language lessons an absolute condition of residency. We are now reaping what we sowed over all these years when we called it parity of esteem towards immigrant cultures, I think it was stupidity. The extreme Islamists despise our weakness and organisations like the EDL have found a fertile breeding ground in the uneducated amongst us.
EDL? Or Peado-L? Their high ranking officials do seem to have a penchant for kiddie fiddling.
The rest is typical racism masquerading as patriotism and social concern. Much to my disappointment, I found my mum had signed up to a group called Knights Templar before she died. One of Nick Griffin's creations, apparently, and much the same sort of thing. A load of waffle about making Britain great again, but you don't have to scratch the surface too hard to discover that the whole agenda is to get rid of brown people.
Can't think of too many old people that think these days are better than the past. It was only a century or so ago that women couldn't vote, and we endorsed slavery, Even more recently, our teachers could smack our kids. Today we still have racism and sexism, but at least we are doing something about it.
Nothing wrong with criticising ideas it's how we grow. Very different to objecting with violence about something you don't understand
Although the EDL claim that their reason for existence is to fight militant islam and jihadism, they have no interest in or understanding of religion. They are simply a racist and xenophobic bunch of hooligans who think that anyone who is not white and right-wing shouldn't live in their country. They had links to the right-wing mass-murderer Anders Breivik in Norway.
Just another hate group like britain first . Set up by football hooligans to defend the flag . They try to say they are just protesting islam but on closer inspection it is apparent they are just typical racists who like a good punch up . There's a few photos around of them giving nazi salutes and articles of them with close ties to american racial hate groups (i forget the names at the moment) . I witnessed a protest of theirs in cardiff about a hundred of them turned up and they kept chanting get out of england . The counter protesters , who vastly outnumbered them , had to remind them they were actually in wales . Not much braincells between them .
Perhaps they could consider taking their angst out on the Russian skinheads when the Europen Chsmpionship comes around. That would sort them out, and probably clear out the gene pool a bit!
@Geoffrey51 not mich of a fight the russians wouldnt break a sweat
Islam would be tolerable if only it were not so antagonistic to post-Enlightenment values. Unlike Christianity which is just obnoxious but generally harmless, Islam is a more virulent aggressive form of cancer. At least the EDL have the guts to say "Boo!" no matter how politically incorrect this is believed to be.
'Guts' and the EDL are not something I'd ever put in the same sentence. These are people who trade on fear, hatred and misinformation.
Dodgy religion coming over here from the middle east, imposing its values and laws. Putting up buildings -hmmmm! Sounds familiar
@JimmyM I think you may have missed the point. I am not defending or supporting the EDL. I believe in an Open Society. This is our European heritage, hence the reference to the Enlightenment. However, the Open Society has its enemies and Islam like a virus that rides the freedom, our ancestors fought to achieve, and it does so with the unconcealed intent of destroying it. They can't help it, they are the victims of a great con called religion. But you have to recognise a pernicious poison when it is in your presence/ Otherwise you risk the well-being of your grandchildren.
@rcandlish Islam proposes the marriage of your enemy. Thus incorporating adversaries so as to control aggressive opposing parties. It is another system. The anglos propose genocide, the christians propose extermination. Crusades? Thus the USA has confined their indigenous populations to separated areas after a policy of extermination. The indigenous population in Mexico is infused into their genetics, tho not culturally, as the Spanish had Moroccan Islam influence in Spain. Fascist Germany studied the US system & embraced the Brits/anglos as brethren. The christian Brits invented the concentration camp via the Boer War in South Africa. This is a very simple synopsis of the history.
I don't think the adherents of EDL can spell BOO!
Do we know how the EDL feel about Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish?
They think that they are all a part of England not a part of Britain just another county which shows you how intelligent they are
@Simon1 uhhhh. I'm glad their strategy is well thought out! What a bunch of tossers.
Where is the option that says the EDL are a bunch of ignoramus who need a book of instructions to use a toilet and even then it has to be in crayon and pictures only since being able to read is "gay".
It's amazing even eight of them managed to find there way there unless the meet was organised to gather outside of a Ye Olde British curry and pizza shop next door to a pub with a picture of German British Beer on it.
I had to turn it off half way through - unbearable. I noticed they did not give a full length body shot. Was that because his knuckles were dragging on the ground?
@FrayedBear Maybe just as well, he probably forgot to put his trousers on
Hi @JimmyM, how come I don't see you in "Traditional and Folkmusic" these days?
@LenHazell53 ROFL- my knuckles wouldn't reach the ground besides which they were too busy stopping my sides from splitting - you sure that he was not wearing a kilt or Pennine pinnie - you don't have to drop your daks in order to moon - just turn round!
