All Hail fellow UK Atheists. Brand new to the site. I'm hoping to find fellowship with people who are fighting for the disestablishment of the Church of England
C of E aren't so bad. They pretty much let their people get on with whatever they do. The RC is far more damaging along with Protestant Evangelism. People will always need a religion of some description. It seems to be a deep and ancient requirement for the species. I vote we keep C of E and look at the more pernicious ideas.
Yes, although they don’t have a huge influence on politics in the U.K., compared to say the USA, and of course in Northern Ireland where I live we have the DUP who have been able to prevent the implementation of progressive legislation around same sex marriage, and abortion reform. A country which I greatly admire, Norway, officially separated church from State a few years ago. The King must still belong to the Lutheran Church of Norway, but no government connection with the church now exists. Incidentally they have the highest percentage of atheists per capita of any western country.
Welcome . Just out of interest -Are you interested in promoting any alternatives to religion? I am sure that we could hasten dis-establishment if we provided viable alternatives to what the religions provide for society - and some of it is good.
Yes, I live in Northern Ireland, but you have my vote. Btw welcome.
Welcome. I am sure you have a lot to contribute
@Mcflewster I think the Church of Ireland here is affiliated to C of E, they are Anglican. I must say in fairness to them, they are moderate compared to all the others...the more extreme Protestant ones are the worst.
