“Don’t Panic, Mr Mannering!”
Looks like EU knew all along what we knew all along!
I have really been afraid all along that the U.K. had no real strategy....It was complete madness. Cameron called the Referendum without a clear plan as to what we’d do if there was a yes vote, he made no preparations for that because he only called it to appease his back benchers and neutralise the threat from Farage....he never thought for one minute that he’d lose the vote. He stomped off in a strop the following day and left a complete shambles behind him. Mrs May won the contest to be the new Tory leader /P.M. after the debacle between Johnston and Gove ruled them both out...and the “strong and stable “ Theresa immediately triggered article 50 and we were on the countdown to departure. She then confidently called a general election only finding her miscalculation of doing so slashed her majority to a handful....that’s when her problems really started. To get anything through Parliament she had to bribe the bastards in the DUP....not a bunch I’d want to have to rely on, as she has found to her cost. She has had to try to keep all the different factions of the Tory party happy too, at the same time as oversee negotiations. I’m sure our civil servants are top class at drafting documents and are most professional...but the team of Brexit ministers were indeed like the cast of Dad’s Army....one by one resigning, first Davis then Raab, then Boris who she had installed as the Foreign Secretary, a job he was spectacularly unsuited to as diplomacy is to him as it is to the other blond buffoon across the pond. All the deadlines to get an agreement passed and extensions had to be made....completely unnecessary if she hadn’t immediately triggered article 50 nearly three years ago. The Irish backstop is still the main stumbling block, that border 20 miles from where I sit was always going to be a problem, I knew it, everybody here knew it, the only politician I heard talk about the Irish Border prior to the referendum was John Major when he came on a visit in the run up to it. He pointed out when he was in Londonderry that he was standing just a couple of miles from the new border with the EU should we vote leave, and was worried about it.
The EU are correct, we have been inept and unprepared....they even offered a long period of reflection and discussion and didn’t pressure us to get out, it was Mrs. May’s choice not to take that offer. I hear Brexiteers blaming the EU and their negotiators for being inflexible and trying to screw us and I think it’s quite clearly the opposite. The aggression is all on our side, especially towards the Irish government...who will be most directly affected and are entitled to be concerned that we have no workable plans for the border. The prospect now of Boris as PM and crashing out with no deal, which is the worst of all outcomes fills me with alarm. I still hear cries of let’s just “get out”..and the mantra “Brexit means Brexit” from people, and wonder how so many Brits have managed to morph into these headless chickens!
Thanks for such an astute summary of the situation.
Well that saved me lots of typing!

Posted by MattHardyA Boris promise is just a lie that hasn't happened yet. Whatever Sue Grey says, no way is Boris going to admit he lied and resign.

Posted by webspider555I’m beginning to wonder whether our government is just incompetent or are all these things happening just to get us in a rage arguing amongst ourselves.
