When an office stands on the gigantic shoulders of the likes of Gladstone, Robert Peel and Churchill, it’s inevitably that a few tossers will be thrown up to balance the books.

Here is one right now

I pity the English and Welsh with the choice of a right wing buffoon or a dithering left winger. I think the Lib Dems are an irrelevance and the voters in NI have their own agenda. In Scotland we have a left of centre anti Brexit party in the SNP with a proven track record. I think the independence thing is overblown and even if a referendum is forthcoming too many people are afraid of the unknown to vote for separation. Our best hope is for a hung parliament with a minority Labour govt propped up by the SNP who can force more devolved powers to Holyrood.

I hope you are right. As I don’t live there now I suppose my stance is irrelevant, but Tory blood on the carpet would not be a bad thing, I think.

At least Labour/SDP would have a more compassionate focus I would hope.

Either way, I wish Scotland well. Not a northern bone in my body and a little Scots ancestry from Flodden, but I have a much fonder affiliation with Scotland than England.

After all as I have posted on my FB page, a vote for the SNP does not mean indepedence, but it may mean keeping a Tory out.
On balance the SNP have handled Scotland rather well - As a Briton and a Social Scientist I try to remain objective on that. The SNP have to be a fulcrum party as they have far right fascists and loony Trotsky-ists on the left and everything inbetween unified by a common goal. So they have to do the best for the Scottish peoples so they can gain that goal in the end.
