A big sigh of relief... the Italy v Scotland match in the Rugby Six Nations match has ended in a 0-17 win to Scotland! I’m going for a wee dram to celebrate...and watch the next match - Wales v France from Cardiff...come on Wales “lechyd da”! Tomorrow it’s England v Ireland at Twickenham, no prizes for who I’ll be cheering on there!
Man, I truly don't understand why rugby has fallen so much during the past couple of years in England. I mean, I understand that most of us are fixed on football and the successes of our Football National Team, however, we shouldn't ignore rugby, especially considering the gap that we have between Scotland and Australia. I mean, have you seen what the AFL is doing?! Their league develops daily, and that's amazing. I found a thread on [ozfooty.net] stating that AFL has actually reached its top level for the last 15 years.
There has always been a much bigger following for football in the U.K….football is the national sport, ahead of cricket or rugby. I don’t think rugby has fallen, there is still a large following and at club level teams all over the U.K. play in local leagues and encourage school age kids to play and develop an interest in the game. The bigger teams which selectors use to feed into the 4 national teams in the U.K. have big fan bases and TV coverage for most of their matches in the same way that football does. Of course that is just Rugby Union I’m talking about…because in the north of England, Rugby League is still a very big sport and has its own following and coverage.
Italy again played well in parts, but the Scots defense was resolute and.effective.
France gave away many penalties (as did Wales), and even had two players sin-binned, but hung on to beat Wales pretty convincingly, thanks again to some dogged defence.
If their form continues, and Ireland defeat England tomorrow (strongly possible) then we could be set for a phenomenal very last match of the season, as two unbeaten teams slog it out for the honour of a Grand Slam.
I shall be in the Stadio Olimpico, in Rome, having journeyed 2,000kms, to watch Italy play England.
It was warm in Rome today they said earlier. Enjoy your trip when the time comes.
@Marionville Thank you. There is also Corona "ovid-19" virus present in Italy, just South of Milan. I hope it does not spread to Rome, causing a ban on sports, etc.
@Petter I hope not.
A tough game for Scotland , but defensively they have improved. A great win for France and I will be wearing my lucky shamrock badge tomorrow
Glad to hear it!
