You'll hear in news reports following these instances snippets of information, "Investigators say..." But are there full reports, comprehensive analysis of events? Since this seems to be a growing threat to the public's sense of safety, we need to be studying this further. People can then come along and take events such as these and manipulate the reality of what has actually occurred which can cause further fear and terrorization. I think with full case studies made accessible to the public it's much easier to debunk false rumors.

Certain aspects of these situations may appear forever questionable, as some of the information relating to previous incidents appears to have not been fully known or can not provide specific answer for. However, in general given overall full information of the scenario you can accept it as the truth. Some of these cases just come across as not making sense. I don't know. I think we are owed more disclosure in this cases.

@LucasfromGR I hadn't heard that was a common thread. I did hear just like yesterday that in virtually all of these cases the perpetrators have interest in committing a mass shooting previous to doing it. Seems like a very straightforward, obvious clue. Hopefully some of these red flag type laws can stop people like this.

@LucasfromGR Okay this is old news already, but I have to follow up. Just found a book that approaches this issue from exactly the perspective I am thinking. It's written by someone holding a masters in forensics psychology and explores the various occurances of mass shootings going back to first one 1949. Not light reading though.

@dermot235 Assault rifles are fully automatic. They have been banned for decades with the exception of grandfathered pre 1986 guns, and even then there's a lot of paperwork and the inelasticity of supply makes them ridiculously expensive. The term you're looking for is "assault weapon" which was made up by politicians to sell victim disarmament. It is based purely on aesthetic and convenience features. We had a ban on those too for years, and it didn't stop anything. When people really want to commit murder, they don't care which tool they use so long as it works. Unless you're a mass murderer yourself, how do you know that they wouldn't just use a bomb or something?

OK First. You don't need to school me on the difference between Automatic weapons and Semi-Automatic Weapons. They are BOTH assault weapons. And Semi-Automatic guns are use in MASS shootings and they kill a lot of people. And your point about if they want to commit murder then they don't care what tool they use. But they will use a tool that is easily available. That's why they use Semi-automatic riffles. If you had BOMB owing rights in the US and you could buy a BOMB in a store, then they would use a bomb, but fortunately you have not got an amendment in your constitution that allows for the ownership of BOMBS. In Ireland where I live we don't sell Semi-automatic weapons in stores and we have had NO School shootings in the 98 year history of out republic. I mean NADA. NONE. Not one. And you can own a gun in Ireland but you have to get a licence that's approved by the police and you have to have a Gun Safe in your home and you can own a hand gun and a hunting rifle and a shotgun for sport shooting but you can't carry it in to a state capital government building like you can in Michigan. And when reasonable rules about gun ownership were introduced in Australia, School shootings disappeared. So if you want to defend the type of gun control or lack of gun control you have in the US on a "our guns are our freedom basis" that's fine. But don't delude yourself that it does not result in gun DEATHS. Gun deaths in the US last year were over 15000. In Ireland it was 3. This gives my children the FREEDOM to go to school without the fear of being shot. I can go to the cinema FREELY and know that nobody is going to shoot the place up. and when I vote and elect a politician to represent me, I know that nobody will turn up to my "state Capital building" to intimidate them with Guns. So I guess to sum up. Banning ONE tool has stopped people murdering each other in most countries, and having reasonable gun control has resulted in deaths from guns in most western developed countries being a tiny fraction of what they are in the US. These are the FACTS Janus. Just plain old facts. FACTS that the NRA know about but are not interested in.

Knives are also used in mass murders. Or have you forgotten about those? How about the "truck of peace" that murdered 80+ people? How about the box cutters that were used for 9/11? For someone who pretends to know so much about mass murders you sure ignore a lot. For that matter, many are done with handguns, including in Australia despite your claim that they haven't had mass shootings since they banned guns. In fact, their violent crime was already dropping and did not accelerate due to the gun ban.

When we're discussing matters of death, you have to keep in mind that guns are not the only things that can kill you. Specifying "gun deaths" in your statistics only means you're ignoring what's actually important, which is violent crime. The places that have banned guns do not have significantly lower violent crime statistics than before they have guns. And if you want to compare across different populations rather than different times, in America the places with the strictest gun laws also have the worst violent crime statistics. "Banning ONE tool has stopped people murdering each other in most countries" ROFL not at all.

But these are just FACTS that the tyrants know but aren't interested in. All they know is it's easier to oppress a disarmed population. Which reminds me, how's Brexit going? Last I heard y'all were finally technically out but still have to follow all the rules, which was always the worst case as the worst if both worlds. Have your tyrants in Belgium acquiesced to your pleas that they free you yet, or is that still how it is?

You said that Gun control states with the strictest laws have the highest crime rates. NOT TRUE. See map attached. The darker the colour the Higher the Murder rate per 100,000 of the population. If you have a knife and everyone else has guns, you're screwed. If you have a knife and everyone else has fists, again, you're better off. We've tried disarming the criminals. The better solution is to let their intended victims be armed.

@Lilac-Jade A 357 magnum revolver would be a hell of a lot more convenient to carry if you were a fisherman or someone not engaged in hunting who was out in the wilderness. Unfortunately every society including Canada has their share of criminals looking for an opportunity to rob, rape or otherwise victimize someone. Here in the US carrying a handgun gives you a better chance.
