Clannad: Live at Christ Church Cathedral
I know that that this is very long so grab as long as you like.
Lovely...this was in Dublin in 2011 and Moya Brennan still sounded great! Have just listened to the beginning...but will dip into the rest nearer to bedtime. Thanks for posting...my husband loved them.
So this was in the Catholic cathedral. I wondered.
@rogerbenham No it isn’t Catholic it is Anglican...or Church of Ireland to be precise. It’s more formal name is The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, and it is the Cathedral church of the united ecclesiastical provinces of Dublin and Cashel. It is the oldest building in Dublin still in use, dating from 1028, and was originally a Viking Church.
@Marionville Now you've really got me! My maternal great grandfather Charles T Ovenden was dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. I thought that that was the Anglican cathedral and head of the Church of Ireland - Anglican. When I saw Christ Church I wondered because that was the name of the cathedral I sang in Vancouver, which also was Anglican. There is a brass plaque on the south wall of St Patricks to CTO. Just how may cathedrals has Dublin got?
@rogerbenham Yes Roger...it’s very confusing indeed, because there are two C of I Cathedrals in Dublin. St Patrick’s is designated as the Irish National Cathedral, but it is not the seat of a bishop, but has the Dean as its top Clergyman, Dean Swift being one of the past holders of that position, the one your great grandfather also held. The Archbishop of Dublin has his seat at the other one, Christ Church, the one where the Clannad concert was held.
