Savoy is a Norwegian/American music group formed in 1994 by Pal Waaktaar, guitarist and principal songwriter of band a-ha, and his wife Lauren Savoy as an alternative outlet to perform music written by Pal when a-ha were in hiatus. He has kept the two bands going in tandem over the intervening years, creating new music for both and performing and recording principally with a-ha, but releasing music and performing with Savoy too during intervals of inactivity when his two a-ha bandmates are involved in other music and artistic projects. This song - Whalebone, was one of the first songs Savoy recorded and the video accompanying it was made by Swiss filmmaker Felix von Murat and is based on a Norwegian fairytale.
Kind of sad and spooky!
It’s Norwegian…they’re all filled with melancholy because they live in the virtual darkness half the year!
@Marionville Most of the population live on the same latitude as the BC Yukon border. Few live up above 65 degrees where darkness really becomes a problem.
@rogerbenham I’m only quoting the Norwegians themselves who give this explanation for their characteristic melancholic music and poetry.
