The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded not in Stockholm, where all other Nobel prizes are awarded, but in Oslo. The Swedish founder of the world’s most prestigious awards, presented annually to those deemed to have made the biggest contribution to mankind and the sciences in various categories, Alfred Nobel, stipulated in his will that a Norwegian committee should determine, and present the award of the Peace Prize. So annually the King of Norway presents the prize at an award ceremony in Oslo, which is then followed by a concert. The Nobel Peace Prize concert as you can guess is also a very prestigious one to be asked to perform at, and many of the world’s top artists have appeared over the years.

In 1998 a-ha, who are of course Norwegian themselves, we’re surprised to be asked to perform as they had not performed together for 4-years and were pursuing solo careers at that stage. However, this proved to be just the impetus they needed to get back together, with a new song written by Pal Waaktaar-Savoy which they debuted live at the concert in December 1998. Outstanding performance I’d say…and the band realise that they have so much more music to make - that this song found it’s way onto a new album in 2000 (Minor Earth, Major Sky) and into the Guinness record books with its 20.2 second held note! Summer Moved On. - a-ha, live 1998.
