My favourite band is a-ha…why?…you ask. Well, I think they’re just simply the best live band with the best original songs and by far and away the best vocalist. To illustrate what I mean here is possibly the best live performance of just one of their great rock songs…a hit in many counties, and just one of the many facets of the original music of the most successful Norwegian musical export to the world. It may surprise many of you, especially if you’re American , but they have music sales of over 100 million units and hold 2 Guinness World records (one for the largest paying audience at a rock concert - 198,000, and for vocalist Morten Harket holding a note for the longest time on a pop record - 20.2 seconds) They were knighted by their King, King Harald of Norway in 2012 for their service to music, the arts, and the humanities. Thank you Magne, Morten & Pal, thank you Norway. I give you …Manhattan Skyline, performed live at NRK studios, Oslo in 1991…🇳🇴

Apollo's Fire, Baltimore Consort, Tallis Scholars, the consort of musicke, William Christie,Kings College Choir, Purcell Consort, Charpentier.

I guess I'm all alone. I have increasingly no interest in strumming guitars.

I suppose I should explain my posting of anything not Classical, nor Baroque: Knowing how Agnostic members respond I tend to post stuff from when I did like pop music. Pink Floyd probably I listened to more than anyone else once I was getting bored of the Rolling Stones. I liked the Beatles well enough but in England in my day, one liked one or the other, not both. As moderate to bad guitar player I do admire the inventiveness of the Beatles. They were quite skilled players.

Yes Roger, I know how your musical tastes have narrowed over the years and in a way I can probably say mine have too, although I still enjoy listening to a very wide variety of different music from many decades, eras & genres. There are however a few, a handful or less, artists that I want to listen to because I can luxuriate in their music…because I find they speak to something deeper inside and I find them sonically satisfying. Sissel, Laura Pausini, k.d. Lang & Morten Harket are vocalists who I never tire of listening to…there are a few others too, but these 4 are my constants who I listen to on heavy rotation. . The combination of a-ha’s music which is sonically and lyrically innovative and Morten’s vocals is irresistible to me, and they’re the only band I’ve ever been drawn to listen to constantly and whom I never tire of hearing. As far as the Beatles are concerned their music will stand the test of time and they greatly influenced musicians who came after…it’s their songs which are their real legacy because they’re performed by many other artists and will be in the future, as a band though I was never drawn to them at all and never bought any of their records, preferring to listen to The Kinks and Rolling Stones in the 1960s.

@Marionville I was 15 in 1962 and very much into Cliff Richard. Then at 16 we got the first inklings of Beatles and Stones.I was drawn to the early taste of counter culture represented by the Stones whilst the Beatles were dismissed as housewives and Mums music. Trouble was the girls preferred the Beatles. So most parties given by girls played Beatles. Funny now remembering how both bands once wore suits!

@Marionville Sissel and Pausini I like well but there are many other singers I am just as happy hearing.

I say the same about the Grateful Dead.
