Traditional Greek music played on the Bouzouki and sung …and kept alive by two young musicians- Hannah & Anastasia … English translations of their Greek names….
Tie a tin to a string and whirl it around your head and you get a musical note
tie a cat by its tail and whirl it around your head and you have Greek music.
(Greeks in my family)
Pardon my ignorance but I think many of us brought up with a certain style of music lump other styles in their own categories. In the military I was based in N. Turkey (Sinop) and heard a lot of Turkish music. When I was dating my late partner her music sounded very much like the Turkish. She wasn't too happy when I mentioned this but did understand. I think we've been through this issue before, but this sounds very Middle Eastern. Still, I have come to appreciate this style thanks to my later partner.
Greece and Turkey are neighbouring countries at the eastern end of the Mediterranean who’s histories and people have been exposed to each other’s cultures for centuries…do you not think it’s natural that there’s an overlap in some of the music they both traditionally inherit?.
