Today is Ravi Shankar's birthday; I was introduced to him way back in the early 70s in Amsterdam by mu boyfriend Alok. Ravi Shanka was a charismatic, good looking man who was very knowlegable in all types of music and had a wicked sense of humor. I tried to learn about ragas. Some parts seem so familiar, like pieces oif old folk music. was fascinated by the sitar but also very intimmidated.

I saw him play live at Middlesbrough Town Hall in 1991, it was amazing
