Those pelis are either immature or just an ugly bunch. Here is a short video on the Australian variety ... renowned for eating small dogs, flying thousands of kilometres inland when the rare rains fill inland lakes such as the 3,666 sq.mile saltwater Lake Eyre in S. Australia and carrying a very irritating bug that gives what is known locally as "Pelican itch or rash" a skin complaint got from swimming in water contaminated by the mites in the pelicans feathers.

@Akfishlady that's why I mentioned the migration to Lake Eyre when it gets water. It also teems with food and somehow they know and so fly there.
