I once kept zebra finches. One night my ex told me to look under their cage which was held in a sided tray atop a turned 4 foot high post. A dozen mice lept from hiding in the bottom of the tray. Eventually the finches were bitten by mosquitos which resulted in first the toes then the feet then the birds falling off!
I then swore never to keep a bird in a cage smaller than a cage that would cover the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And still will not.
Adorable! I bred a few finch species during the 1980s.
Noiiice! What species now?
@MrLink I raised so many species of parrot, canary, fancy pigeon, etc., back in the 1980's I don't remember all the finch species, but they were relatively inexpensive, so nothing impressive. But I do remember Society Finches, hand-feeding some of the babies, and all of them flying behind me around the house.
@birdingnut Cool. I would do finches again if I didn't already have 2 dogs and 2 cats. They would be Java Finches.
he looks cheeky. i kind of flinch when confronted with the idea of keeping birds in a cage. i much prefer them free & airborne - which to me is a great part of the appeal of birds - apart from emus, ostriches & penguins
Fare enough
