Pretty birds! Lucky you.
We'll have our purple finches coming back and goldfinches too - when they decide Spring is going to arrive. It's snowing tonight. (sigh)
Your purples and golds are probably down here eating every bit of seed that I put out! I've got tons right now, possibly due to gathering migrators.
where do your finches go to in winter, @RavenCT?
@walklightly I've always been told "South". The Gold and Purple ones are always harbingers of Spring. (They also lose so much color between Fall and Spring and the intensity of their color is a good indicator of breeding season and a return to better weather).
And I just looked that up and "As far as Mexico" is the correct answer! Who knew?
@RavenCT, it never seizes to amaze me - the distances many of these tiny birds are able to cover during their regular migrations!
