I still wanted to feed the small birds, (but not the rats) so I bought fat balls in plastic mesh bags, made some wire hooks and hung them up, alas these kept disappearing completely, the culprits were Rooks or Crows as they call them here, they are very clever for a bird brain, being bigger and stronger than carrion crows and a larger thicker beak and are good at problem solving, they stretched my imagination and patience by circumventing all my efforts...
