Sugar water recipe: 1 cup granulated sugar to 3 cups water - boil. Keep in fridge for up to a week. If it looks cloudy dispose of it. You can go as high a 1 cup sugar to 2 cups water - especially when you know they are migrating or under stress.
I have heard the red coloring is bad for them? I don't know if this is true or not but I got the recipe with my feeder. 17 years ago. The red on your feeder is sufficient to attract them.
Also getting your neighbors into feeding them - increases your yield!
Down here people had a habit of feeding sugar soaked bread to lorikeets. It was quickly discovered that this unnatural diet resulted in the spread of disease. The disease created fledgelings without flight feathers. These birds, unable to fly, become known as runners. For those that do not fall prey to cats, snakes and rats or die from the disease flight feathers grow after a year.

Your feeders look as if the birds only come into contact through their beeks. How is disease prevented?
@FrayedBear Not my feeder just my recipe.
@FrayedBear Also you use cleaning brushes on Hummer feeders every single time you change out the sugar water.
Probably also proportionate the the size of your sugarwater feeder thing-a-ma-jiggy. Size matters when comes to hummers.
I've found that ease of getting the nectar is important. I could not lure ANY with my Droll Yankee wasp proof feeders, but birds flocked to the $3 Walmart cheapies.
How do you rate the long multi port tubes in this scheme? I bought a four footer last year. Nesters ignored it, but fall babies and migrators went nuts for it.
