The red-rumped swallows have finished building their nest but it has been stolen by a pair of sparrows. The swallows fought valiently for their rights but weren't strong enough to see off the sparrows who are now in residence. A case of locals refusing to let the summer visitors have the accommodation, even though they built it!

Are you in UK or Spain?

In Spain at the moment, desperate to get to the UK, but not going until early July.

I recently (last week) ran in to an eye-level nest....complete with young ones! Maybe you can help me I.D. them?

I'm no good on birds of the USA but those feathers to the immediate left of the nest might help with identification. Also, the twigs used for the nest are quite thick so I would think quite a sturdy- sized bird.

The completed nest.
