Hi there! I rescue birds by taking non-releasable pigeons and doves from wildlife rehabilitators. That was the area with the most need. My new pigeon/dove aviary is 80'X18'. Does anyone else rescue?
That is a good sized aviary. After very briefly keeping 2 zebra finches in a pagoda shaped indoor cage I swore never to keep birds again unless they were in a decent sized enclosure. I simply ended up never keeping any.
And the finches? They died from mosquito bites that resulted in necrosis of their feet, inability to perch and death. Their seed also attracted mice. I came home one night to be told by the ex to look. There were over a dozen underneath the cage atop its 4' spindle feeding on spilled grain!
