Another duck in need of fixing! This time she's a wild female mallard who was hit by a car. Her left leg was badly broken, just above the foot, and the bones were displaced. The only viable options for her were euthanasia or amputation. Her x-rays revealed no other injuries and she seemed strong and feisty otherwise. So, the surgeon who worked on Friday volunteered to do the amputation. The surgery went very well, better than expected actually, and mama mallard is expected to make a full recovey. If all goes well she will be released as soon as the sutures come out--about 10-14 days.
poor little thing, & good on you folks for doing your best - (effing drivers).
@Insectra, yes, that sounds probable. still, the question remains: who has right of way?
Is it common to release an amputee duck?
