Hello All,
my Sam is an 8 year old eclectus. he started plugging his front and now back feathers but stopped about 2 weeks ago. The vet said that he is healthy but stressed. My answer was that we live on the beach and he loves his chicken and chicken bones and most veg and fruit i give him. Anybody has any advise?
He is only 8 years old and very people friendly. Loves females.
You could try getting him a companion bird of some type. If not another eclectus, then a less expensive parrot or other bird option, so he can interact with something.
Parrots mate for life, and if he sees you as his mate, he's likely to freak out when you aren't physically with him at all times.
They can, however, bond with other birds, relieving separation anxiety.
Very good advice
Had a little parrot for him but he was afraid of him. Yes he was so i had to give the little guy away.......
@seafarersd You don't put a strange bird in a cage with a parrot..you simply put the other bird's cage in the same room so they can interact visually and vocally. If the Eclectus seems uneasy, just move the other bird's cage a little further away until he relaxes.
After they seem to be bonding, you can bring the cages closer. Eventually, both can be out of their cages, but on separate tree perch stands.
