After post-op chemo, how long does it take for the achy feet side effect to go away?
I've been done with chemo for 8 months now and still have neuropathy in my right foot. From everything my doctor has said and personal research there's no real way of knowing. For some patients it never goes away. Mine has improved but it's very slow going.
My chemo ended in May of this year. The swelling and the feeling that I've been hit with a 2X4 on my feet is gone but the neuropathy is worst than diabetic neuropathy. Doctor told me it could take up to two years.
If you're talking about neuropathy it can last for a while. My Last chemo was 5 years ago. I have it on and off. Right now 5 yrs of remission from AML-acute myloid leukemia - I have trouble standing in the shower and use a bath chair. I also have schleraderma which was later diagnosed-due to bone marrow transplant and Graft vs. Host Disease. I stopped taking Oxycodone for pain and use medical cannabis.
I had heard that it can last years and that’s why I put my hands and feet in ice while having the treatment, to keep it from being too bad. My nails did come in very thin so I had to wear press on nails so I could type at work. It really hurts when you bend your nails backwards from the slightest touch.
The nails issue suck! I lost half of my toenails from the treatment. However, I am alive and well.
You mean neuropathy? I've been out of treatment a little over a year and I still have it in my hands and feet. Everyone's different, sometimes it can go away quickly, sometimes it can last a few years. I take pain meds and do OT/PT to learn how to manage it.
