Having had a Radical Prostatectomy 26 years ago for Prostate Cancer and currently being treated for a Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and various Skin Cancers I guess you could say I am a survivor. I am always surprised when I go to the Cancer Center and see such a large diversified group of people under going treatmentt Young, Old, Male, Female, Black, Asian.
I agree. The clinic I go to is always full, people standing in line. I recently read one out of three people will have some form of cancer in their lives. It makes me sad to think so many people need treatment. It's not easy. Cancer effects us all.
Cancer certainly doesn't discriminate. You've certainly had more than your share. I wish you another triumph over this scourge!
Cancer is truly non-discriminatory. It is an "equal opportunities" affliction. Ive had mine (Waldentrom's) for over four years, and it has loyally stuck with me.
I'm currently in the process of removal. It scares me. I've had organs removed before but this will take several surgeries and more than two years recovery. I have stage three breast cancer which has also traveled to my lymph nodes. The plan is to remove my breast and lymph node under my arm, six weeks radiation, possible chemotherapy, then reconstruction surgery. I feel like I'd rather just keep the cancer.
Petter... I had never heard of that particular cancer, but I just researched it and it looks like it tends to have a very positive prognosis. My best to you.
@confidentrealm It's a decision no one can make for you. I was diagnosed with stage 3 bilateral invasive ductal carcinoma and wrestled with the decision too. I was terrified. But I decided to go with the treatment. I had bilateral mastectomies, chemo and radiation, since they also found cancer in 6 of the 10 lymph nodes they removed. Was it scary? Hell yeah. Was it worth it? Hell YEAH! I'm happy to say that I just celebrated 7 years cancer free and I'm here to see my son get married next month. My only advice is to carefully research the reconstruction options and choose the method and the physician that have the best outcomes.
@TheoryNumber3 Thank you. With luck I'll die of old age first!
@TheoryNumber3 thanks for the encouragement. I really need it right now. I'm just afraid that if I can't work I will be useless. I have plans. I have to continue to reach my goals. I'm just afraid of losing time with all of this treAtment, surgery. Etc.
@confidentrealm Maybe you could think of your wellness as another very important goal you have to reach. Sometimes we have to take an occasional detour before we get back on the main road to our destination.
@Petter That sounds like the better of the two options
@confidentrealm Time is relative. To lose One year when you are two years old is to lose half your life. To lose one year when you are fifty years old is 2% of your life. Concentrate on getting better, not on theoretical disasters. We're rooting for you.
