Thought I’d introduce you to one of my hobbies. It’s a craft called softpotting. Basically, softpots are plant pots made from tensioned fabric. I’d love to hear what you think!

Pretty..are they felt?

Dante714 Level 5 Apr 1, 2019

No - they do look like felt though. They’re made from tights and coloured sisal

@PatsyH ok..now you have piqued my interest..I can't find a you tube video on the process..and there are very few things you can't find on you tube!

I really love them. I will have to look this up. I am guessing water seeps through bottom like in pots with a hole in bottom

I would think they leak when they're watered , and won't last very long if you set them outside.

Cast1es Level 9 Mar 31, 2019

They do leak! This is one of the main advantages as most houseplants die from overwatering- that doesn’t happen. They also last just as long outside as they do inside (unless you’re playing football with them)!

I've never seen such a thing. They're very pretty. I love all the colors.

Thank you!

These look great! I'd never heard of softpotting before. Thanks for showing us.
It's interesting that there's enough tension to provide stability so the plants don't tip over.

Mofferatu Level 7 Mar 31, 2019

Yes - the tension is important but you use gravel or small pebbles in the base for weight - especially for outdoor pots!

@PatsyH oh right. That makes sense. I was imagining the plants rolling around in the wind ? but a heavier base would help with that. ?

they're beautiful!

Thank you!

how do you do it?

btroje Level 9 Mar 31, 2019

They’re actually made from tights (I think you call them pantyhose in the US)!
