I'm in California (Monterey peninsula) for a business trip this week. I went a little early and thought I'd do some hiking in the Big Sur area. Over and over today, I encountered trails that were closed. A lot of them said things like "temporary closure for storm damage" but the signs looked like they were there for the long haul. Still managed to have an OK time and see some neat stuff, but it was disappointing to find so many trails closed.
I just got back from Monterey a week ago. Great hiking in Big Sur and Moss Landing! The coastline and the bay are the best destinations there.
It is easier and cheaper to put up fences blocking access than to fix the trails. With the Trump interior department working on the problem I'm sure they are short of funds.
Better to give tax breaks to billionaires than fix access to spectacular vistas. "sarcasm"
There was a devastating landslide not ago that blocked access to Sur from the north. I guess they finally cleared the coastal roadway? I vacationed close by a year or so before the slide—and fell in love with the area.
Any trail pics?
