I just read Grandma Gatewood's Walk. Emma Gatewood hiked the entire Appalachian Trail in 1955, when she was 67 years old. A remarkable book about a remarkable woman. Highly recommended.

Ok folks, back from 2 weeks on the Appalachian trail through Pennsylvania. I have to say it was thoroughly enjoyable. The trail goes through many towns so food resups are plentiful. Relatively flat but the rocky terrain increased the more north I ...

"Climbers" dying on Everest while waiting in line. Forget the peace and solitude of wide open spaces. This is supposedly the pinnacle of mountaineering experiences. You couldn't pay me enough to go. Does this look like fun to you?

I'm currently researching camping sites along the north end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The first one is the Peaks of Otter, Virginia. It's next to a small lake. Anyone got any recommendations?

Some photos from hike near my house. There are beavers in this lake, I never see them but have seen the large beaver dens in the lake before and see trees downed by them. Saw a mallard with her babies in muddy water, and swans. Also a male and female...

This group has a similar ethos to the Sailing group, there may be some cross-over, I'm not sure if there's a way to link them?

Never enough paddling here. I'm a canoeist, but I often paddle with kayakers, kayaking being easier for beginners to learn. I was on the Grand River near Lansing, and on Hell Creek (aka the Portage River, downstream from Hell, naturally) yesterday....
