Hi all! Would love to know if there is a yibe with experience using human hair to make thread for repairing or making shirts and such clothing? I'm Jim and I am getting into sewing.

It is not something I have ever tried or even thought about. Why would you want to do it? I wouldn't have thought human hair was very strong, anyway. Though people did braid it into funeral jewellery and keepsakes a hundred and fifty years ago.

I am starting to learn about sewing to be able to understand what would be needed for a Mars colony. Clothing is a huge item and repairs nwoukd be needed as well as accessories. My first goal is to make thread from human hair. I am going to use a drop spindle first to see how it goes. Thank you for your interest.

@InTactJimmy A Mars colony would need to be growing plants and fibres from multi-purpose plants seem to me to be a better way forward than human hair, though it's worth a try!

@CeliaVL It's always tough to know the future. I do know that there will be excess hair on mars, not sure about plants.

@InTactJimmy Let us know how you get on!
