I am knitting a lace shawl at the moment. I have now got 399 stitches on the needles and I shall have 523 stitches by the end. By the time I have done one row my hands are really aching but I don't like stopping in the middle of a row. Any suggestions for helpful techniques?
I looks like at least the repeats are even through out the shawl...can you stop at each repeat?
@thinktwice The pattern is not a problem. It is easy to see where I am. It is more that I am afraid of the stitches falling off the needle - I am using a long circular one - or getting a big stretch hole in it.
@CeliaVL are you using lifesavers/lifelines? For large shawls I do even though it is more work...
@thinktwice No, not yet! Perhaps I should put them in from now on as it is only going to get harder and more likely to slip off if my hands go numb. I would be so cross if I made a mess of it now.
@CeliaVL Be sure and take some progress shots...it will help to keep you motivated...and take breaks...I love the shawl...lovely...I might put it in my ravelry queue
What are you knitting? Do you have pattern or link? I have arthritis in my hands and find that if I can keep my hands warm, they don't bother me as much...I wear those spandex workout gloves like they sell for weight lifting...the are about $10 and have no fingers...
I make multiple copies of the chart and mark where I am...I also hate ending in the middle but those are a lot of stitches!!! Remember to also get up and stretch...I was so intent on knitting that I strained my shoulder and was in therapy for nearly a year!
I'm knitting a lace shawl. I have knitted several before without having this problem, but I think my arthritis must be getting worse. It is very fine yarn, too, which doesn't help. The pattern is called Miracoli.
