"I am friendly. I am honest and outgoing. I am weird and funny and special without being too arrogant, I hope. Least importantly, I am one handsome bastard."
According to Douglas Adams, I am just the kind of Hoopy Frood who knows exactly where his towel is.
I am a retired Computer Programmer. I am now trying to take it easy and live a happy and healthy lifestyle. I work part time at a movie theater where I get to see - and take friends to - Free Movies!
I enjoy making people laugh and having a good time. I'm also very intelligent and an avid conversationalist. I believe that conversation is a lost art. If I've had a few drinks in me I'm the best damn karaoke singer I've ever heard.
I love exercising, walking and hiking, but I also have a strong lazy streak when nap time comes.
I'm not very competitive; you win! See? And I don't care that much about sports. My older brother was a jock/bully, and now that he's a football coach/history teacher, he can remain that way in perpetuity as far as I'm concerned. I've had enough sports douche-baggery for a lifetime. BUT if there's some back-story, like at the Olympics or a championship game, I can generate enough hype to fit in with the crowd. Live hockey and roller derby are always awesome!
Baseball is too slow for me. eh. I'm more interested in keeping "the wave" going at a baseball game than I am in what's going on down there on the field.
I'm creative and enjoy writing poetry, stories, drawing, painting, and various other artsy craftsy things, but typically have too short an attention span to finish things up properly. Solo creativity is often melancholy, mean-spirited, and angst-ridden when I attempt it.
Collaborative creativity is a very positive thing for me because I find unlimited source of motivation and ideas from interactive socialization with friends.
I have a very laid back and easy going attitude. What can I say?
The dude abides.
I am typically very easy going and tolerant. However, if I begin to get the faintest whiff of intolerance or bigotry, I will immediately pounce on that and become the most argumentative, negative, devil's advocate just to hunt that shit out, expose it for the evil that it is, and lay it's corpse out to rot for the world to see.
I am geeky, nerdy, and proud. I also have several ear piercings and intend to get more, possibly some tattoos. If you know a good artist, I'd appreciate the referral. I currently have Virgin skin and I want the first piece to be perfect and expensive. I'm willing to wait for the right artist.
I color my hair. Usually natural colors, but not always. Sometimes, but not often, more than one color at the same time. I might experiment with a stripe between colorings just for fun.
I have no discernible sense of fashion. I don't throw just anything together, but it probably looks like it. Trust me, there is a method to my madness.
T-Shirt and jeans is my normal faire. Sometimes I may peacock with dress slacks, a button up shirt, and who knows? maybe a hat with an ostrich feather just to prove that I'm not completely sane. I only wear sneakers. Damn uncomfortable footwear to Hell!
I love books, movies, music and food!
My favorite authors are George R R Martin and Harlan Ellison -- honorable mention to Neil Gaiman who is also awesomesauce. There are really too many to mention but most are fantasy and science fiction authors.
Favorite movie is Dead Poets Society ("Carpe Diem!" ) but I always enjoy a romantic comedy or action adventure flick too. I'm a particular fan of B-movie comedies and cheesy horror and cult films (Rocky Horror Picture Show / REPO the Genetic Opera). The Big Lebowski is my favorite subtle comedy. I also love british comedy shows.
Favorite music is 70's and 80's Guitar Rock (Blue รyster Cult, Steppenwolf, Van Halen). Celtic music, especially folk-rock (Dougie Maclean, Paracelt, Clannah, Lorena McKennit, Flogging Molly, The Killdares), prog rock (Rush, Pink Floyd), metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica), and I even enjoy country, R&B, and pop if it has a catchy tune and you can dance to it. I can rap along with most Beastie Boys songs off the License To Ill album. If it's rap/hip-hop, it better be some 80s gangsta-ass-shit or I won't even recognize it.
Favorite food is Tex Mex, Italian is a close second. I'm a not a picky eater -- except when I pick two of each. I love everything that's spicy and has lots of cheese and bread. "It isn't spicy if you're not crying!" I love a fine wine or beer (Sam Adams, Shiner, ZiegenBock, Angry Orchard) but only drink socially and never to extreme. Crown or Fireball is always welcome.
