I grew up Mormon in France, which is almost like reverse-winning the lottery. The gap between religious and secular values was as clear as it could be growing up in a religiously devout family and yet exposed to a rational and secular culture on a daily basis. Despite that, it took me the better part of 30 years to accept that the truth claims of the Mormon church in particular, and all religions in general, just aren’t based in fact.
I left the church for good in 2015. Still figuring out my own values and path to happiness, and trying to enjoy life in the process.
