Not sure if this question has been asked previously but what is the site's position on people who are clearly religious (zealot level, especially) joining?
I had some dood who was clearly intent on spreading the word of Jeebus start following me today.
He was leaving his sky cake crap in comments of others posts as well.
I blocked him.
I had, another one last week who was obviously a scammer. 'Believer' as well.
I told him I thought he was a scammer, he never argued against it and surprise surprise he is gone from the site now.
While I am mostly patient with believers in my day to day life, I didn't join this site to have to contend with them. I had to deal with those arseholes on OKC enough.
I would bet that these idiots think they are going to 'save' us.
So, do we just block these people or can we make it clear that 'believers" will have to accept pushback from the rest of us should they choose to join?
I would not be for banning.
I absolutely would block anybody who attempted to proselytize here -- to me or anybody else. If everybody did that, in short order, they would have no audience.
As it is, I almost never see proselytizing. I don't know if it's because they get bored and move on; or if can't stand the heat and move on.
We are free and do not censor. However, many, like myself, enjoy being extremely snarky to those people, especially the ones that try to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. FUN!
How delicious! I KNEW I like you!
We go all snarky on them, and enjoy ourselves...and by "we" I mean me....
They don't last long, "believing" stunts the brain.
In agreement with you. This issue is a recurring one here, has been since last year: Should believers be allowed to join. Site policy is that no one is excluded if good behaviour is practised, including believers. I didn't join to do battle with religionists either, but I respect the site policy. Seems to me there are lots of places they could be where non believers would neither wish to be nor be accepted. Personally, I like the idea of this site as a refuge from the religious world. Others have a different view. Moreover, it is fact that what is meant by "believers" here is open to definition. An obvious definition of someone who believes in religion doesn't cut it. Factor in new age spiritual types who claim not to be religious but sort of are, and so-called secular religionists and alike, as well those who claim to be generally or "currently agnostic" but unfortunately display noticeable residue religious leanings in their posts and comments, and you soon realize that the lines of what it means to be a believer here can be blurry. I can only say I don't waste my time here on overtly religious believers. I could waste my time in the real world doing that if I wished. I don't wish.
Ignore. Ive learned that like the TRUMP bubble you can't break through with Critical Thinking or logic. So don't engage, not worth it. walk away or change the subject. They confuse opinions and facts, you can't win. so smile and walk away.
I dunno what the policy is..admin. has mentioned before that they even actively recruit religious people. I don't know if I understood correctly, though.
So, for now I just hit "block" the moment anyone admits to being religious, or shows support for Trump's policies and/or the alt-right.
Some people enjoy arguing with them, but I've had all of it I want.
"actively recruit religious people?" WHY? This is only asking for argument.
I'd like to ban them myself. They are intruding in every other venue on the planet. Having one idiot free zone seems a small thing to hope for...
