I’m so upset with this recent illegal immigrant separation of children from their families. I want to stop it, but even if I drive to where it’s happening, it probably won’t do any good. I can’t believe I live in a country that allows this tragedy. Is anyone else feeling this frustrated?
I should probably call my Senator/Representative before I lose my shit. Anger overflowing and its hard to think passively while sessions commits MAJOR human rights violations under the guise of national security. I get so angry and embarrassed about what this country is becoming.
Yes! Call! And keep calling. Tie up their phones so that all they hear is how pissed their constituents are.
@Minta79 I've started volunteering for campaigns in my area, but I'm also going to do as you suggest. Thank you! I was just too much of an introvert till recently.
I've stated this elswhere, but I'm going to repeat myself here, again:
I will not comment on the right or wrong of this. That is obvious to us all, I think. But from a strictly pragmatic point of view, this is a very dangerous course of action. This is how you incubate, and nuture a generation of terrorists and revolutionaries, who will forever hate 'Murica'. These children will remember these days. And, we will see them again in a decade or so. And it will NOT be pretty.
Absolutely.
Please help register new voters!
Last April with two other volunteers, we registered 74 high school students to vote during four lunch hours. Wenatchee High School kindly provided tables and chairs. All students have the same lunch hour. Seniors can leave the building. They walked right past our tables.
"Register to vote!" I called loudly, all smiles, dancing and waving my arms. "It takes TWO minutes! Right here at these tables. The media says young people won't vote. Prove them wrong!"
We will do it again in September.
Bravo for you, @literatehiker!
@Lauren
Thank you. I hope more people register new voters.
Vote Republicans out of office!
You are not totally helpless in this. Bug the crap out of your elected officials. Donate to the ACLU. And vote.
Anyone capable of compassion can sympathize with parents who want to find a safe home for their children. Anyone with any human decency would understand how despicable it is too threaten desperate people with separation from those they love.
For children the threat is even more terrifying; they've done nothing wrong and to treat children away from their protectors and caregivers when they are most vulnerable and frightened is fucking horrific. I can't even imagine the trauma that these people will have to deal with four decades to come.
Even if you cannot empathize because you are a narcissistic, ignorant piece of shit, you should see that this isn't terribly unlike actions that in the past have created generations of hatred and even terrorism.
I share your revulsion and anger. And every time tRump blames the democrats for the situation, I just want to reach into the TV and put my hands around his wrinkled orange neck and SQUEEZE. And can you believe that yesterday Jeff Sessions provided a bible verse to justify his adherence to this obnoxious policy.
Here's a link to a video of his press conference:

And here's a link to verse(s) that are seen as more appropriate.
Also, Stephen Colbert really ripped Sessions in his show last night.
(Here's your video and reading assignments for tonight, in case you needed something to fill your free time.)
Well said Stephen.
Call your senators and ask them to support S.3036 the Keeping Families Together Act.
Yesterday, I was planning things out in my head just in case I had to drive down to Texas. I have no idea what I would do, but I'd have to go. Protest or help break down the walls. The news should be covering this 24/7. I see 2 minute snippets of it here and there on MSNBC, but for the most part, nothing.
Am I being hyperbolic, or are the children being held in detention centers in Texas remind you of concentration camps? This is sick.
What about Native Americans and The African American Slavery?
I feel your pain and helplessness! What can I do? I wish I had an answer, I also wondered if showing up, would make a difference? It needs to be a mass demonstration of we ‘Americans do not support this treatment of children!’
Or families.
@AstralSmoke ...and let us not forget this is the political party of ‘family values!’
I feel the same way. So helpless and powerless and so ashamed of my country.
I just signed a protest letter to Sessions’ Methodist church in Al...but I could not put it here, sorry!
Yes. But then, I've been frustrated with our American politics for a long time.
I think this has gone way passed ‘frustration over our politics!’ This is social decay, brought on by our government!
@Freedompath Agreed. But even in this, we have to exercise the presence of mind to see both sides.
And the serenity (if that's the right word) to not let it give us ulcers.
Work to change things, the way you always have. But guard against giving it the power to hurt you.
@Jthurston2 ..,agreed! But, what is turning my life inside out and making me ill...is the destruction of a working imperfect social order! The ramifications will carry over and still hurt people long after I am dead and gone! It is like a reoccurring disease. How long has it taken other social systems to recover after an event in history as is happening today, with dictator trump? He is forcing us into ‘evil’...and trying to convince us..,it is better than ‘holy water!’
@Jthurston2 you can sit on the fence, if you like, but that is not me! I stand with the illegal families and especially the children! They are to be cared for...not tossed about like discarded trash!
@Freedompath I wouldn't say I'm sitting on the fence, but I understand your point.
Yes and that so many people support it. I feel like a jew in 1939 Germany seeing the coming storm.
It's disgusting. Keep speaking out, be vocal and visible. We'll beat this!
When everyone’s done venting about the outrageousness of these acts, all I can say is get out and vote and stop throwing your vote away on extremists and third-party candidates with no hope of winning!
When this screwed up two-party system we have proposes a candidate that I'm willing to support, I'll gladly vote for them. Until then, I'll vote for the person (even if they don't have a chance of winning) that I feel best represents the way I feel.
@AstralSmoke Right? Maybe a third party candidate would have a chance to win, if they were included in debates...
Yes, it’s clever thinking like that that gave us Donald Trump. Congrats, good work!
And yet if you asked most of the people in the Houston area aka republicans and so called Christians they are perfectly fine with what the keebler elf and the orange monster are doing.
Excuse me . Speak for yourself !. Living here in Houston , and I have not heard anyone say they agree with Trumps' handling of this situation . When you don't know what you're talking about , you an keep your insults to yourself .
