I'm trying to get through The Handmaid's Tale(on S1E6). I've always been an atheist, but I'm even more of an atheist after having watched this. I didn't think that was possible. This show is killing me, but I've come too far. I HAVE to finish.
I tried watching one episode and found it slow, dire and depressing. Yet dystopian fiction has always fascinated me - so, does anyone recommend the book?
It gets better once they start revealing how it all happened. I've heard the books were amazing from a few friends who've read them.
It’s a frightening show. I read the book years ago, and tried to read it again last year. Couldn’t do it, it reads too much like current events.
Google "[any middle eastern capital] street scene 1968". See women wearing modern clothing, having coffee, shopping. Now they get stoned to death if not in full burka. It could happen!
That's why it's so difficult. Not like it's that far fetched...
