Vacation Time!!

Leaving around noon to travel across the US to Yellowstone and back. We've reserve the cabin in the picture for three days while we explore Yellowstone and then we'll head back.

I'm so excited and a little nervous.
It is just me and my son (13). My daughter just started a new job so she isn't going.

Any sites along the way you recommend?

Depending on which route you take, Mount Rushmore is on the way.

Take him fishing in yellowstone lake if you like water activitites. You can do three days just driving around and touring the caldera. Have a great vacation!

Have a great and safe trip. This is a beautiful country, it's just the people running it and those that support them that are ugly! ???

Have a great time and may your travels be easy!

Devil's Tower definitely!

But before that...Deadwood, SD -- the whole town. 🙂
And, around Mt. Rushmore -- there are caves, Custer State Park, and the Mammoth Site

Just returned from doing exactly what you are doing! my 82-83 year old parents and 14 year old daughter and I drove from Seattle to Minneapolis. Took 2 weeks and there was still more to see and do. I highly recommend picnic lunches. Cheaper and outdoors. A good combo. Note that the roads in and near the park are slow and wind around. Beautiful, but as the only driver, don't bite off more than you can comfortably do in a day. I got altitude sick and that made driving around and around harder. Also, don't drive in the dark in the park. Very slow going, and tiring. Take it easy and have a great trip!

And there are big animals on the roads at night.

If you find yourself going through St Louis area, theres Monks Mound, the largest Pre-Columbian earthwork in the Americas and the largest pyramid north of Mesoamerica. The beginning of its construction dates from 900-955 CE.

Theres also Meramac Caverns, which is said to ha e some of the most colorful mineral formations of any cavern system in the U.S.

I would skirt through the badlands of SD along the way there or back. There's Sturgis, Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse etc...

Going to be a couple hundred miles north of Yellowstone at my class reunion. Hope you have a great time. Be careful.

Have fun. What an adventure for you both.

About 90 miles north is the town of Bozeman, Montana (if your a star trek fan). Theres the American Computer Museum there, as well as Cafe Zydeco, sounds like great music while you eat. They're on my list of places on Google maps.

I've never been there, it looks beautiful.
Have a fantastic time!

Yellowstone is awesome. You will love it! Just don't get in hot water.

1

I would love to be able to do that. Have a wonderful time.

My friend says dragons mouth spring is impressive and less crowded than other Yellowstone attractions.

If you're taking I-70, I wanted to visit the burial mounds in Illinois on a trip to MO. Unfortunately, I was travelling with other people who weren't too keen on history.

Wow, that looks really nice. Have fun!

If you take a slightly less direct route, you can stop at Little Bighorn, in Montana just off I-90 and US 212. Then you can also see Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore and the Sitting Bull statue.

Wow! What route(s)?
