New group for 2A supporters and shooting sports enthusiasts- "Pro Gun Rights"
I'm all in favor of group that supports a well regulated militia. Let's get some regulating!!!
Good to hear. I happen to belong to a local citizen militia group that is quite regulated, and if we break any laws we would be subjected to incarceration. The NRA is very similar in nature. Now that we got the regulated militia part down, onto the part where it says "shall not be infringed", as you have to take the 2A as a whole and not just a particular part of it. I happen to own at least two of what some folks would call an "assault rifle", but that is perfectly fine because it is legal to own said rifles, and I certainly comply with all regulation in place. Glad you are in agreement with such.
@SpikeTalon Not so fast. WHO are regulated the militia and the NRA and how well regulated are they. As we know, the NRA is very secretive about its membership and leadership, and industry funding. A well regulated militia should be subject to oversight, background checks, membership, discipline, etc. -- not just a bunch weekend drunks with guns.
@PDXNorm The Feds oversee them and their actions, just as any other group would be subjected to. No one these days are above big brother surveillance. Secretive about their membership and leadership you say? Their membership is between 5-6 million members and those details are available online easily. Same is true with the leadership, that could also easily be found online. The NRA offers both adult and youth firearm safety and handling courses which are strictly regulated (and you would think one of sound and rational mind would be all for safety courses being taught). So much for being secretive. Background checks are conducted more now than ever, even most jobs these days require background checks, and regarding firearms purchases many states have now closed background check loopholes. Discipline? Take an NRA course and you'll be disciplined sure enough, assuming you lack in discipline that is. Now to the last part of your comment... Weekend drunks? Haha, that's comical, and also absurd and rather judgmental. Your comment there indicates that pretty much every member of the NRA is a drunk or damn close to everyone, which is quite a huge claim, and you know what they say huge claims require some huge evidence to back up said claims. So...I'd be rather curious to see this evidence you must have, until then I must remain "agnostic" until that claim is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. By the way, just in case you decide to edit your comment, I took a screenshot of it.
Question: is there any way to join a group without getting frequent alerts from that group? I don't like the alerts.
You may be able to modify the alerts on your notification page, maybe. If not, perhaps that could be a suggestion to mention in the Community Senate, an option to mute group notifications.
@SpikeTalon I haven't yet found a way to do it, and as a result have left every group except for the Community Senate.
@doug6352 Try selecting "someone replied to your comment" option in the notifications section instead of all alerts. Also, are you using the smartphone app or are you logged in via a web browser?
Fuck it, let's do this, I feel like arguing with people online: the term "Supporter of the 2nd amendment" makes no sense.
"Gun enthusiast" - sure. "Shooting sports fan" - absolutely. But what exactly are you "supporting" in regards to 2nd amendment? It's not about being pro-gun - it's about being a volunteer in the neighborhood watch, only with muskets...
Support meaning the right of American citizens to keep and bear arms, as the 2nd says. I can't explain it any other way. If that part bothers you for some reason, then just focus on the shooting sports enthusiast part.
I think what bothers me, mostly, is the implication that this amendment is something that's being taken away. Yeah, you have the right to keep firearms. Why does this right need a support campaign?
For the sake of intellectual honesty, it is important to mention that your post didn't convey any of the above. It's just that I've been debating on this particular subject with people for a while now, so my reaction to 2A is almost Pavlovian at this point. But that's on me
@Karnaph I started that group because there already is a gun control group on here, so now there is a group for both sides. While the 2A is not going away anytime soon, many states have enacted some strict measures which to date have accomplished very little, so I'd say 2A rights have been under attack recently. If by chance it's something you don't agree with (or even understand), you could just ignore it.
@doug6352 You got that right Doug.
