I've been here a few days, actually level 4..., whatever that means...? What I would like to know, are there any Conservatives on this site?

I'm a democratic socialist because I still believe the world is worth saving and that everyone should be able to live in dignity, have healthcare, food and water.

@macrobius < isn't that part of dignity, if not it should be.

I think a few. Me, I am liberal but get along with conservatives if they can disagree in a respectful way. I get along fine with people who are fiscal conservatives but socially tolerant. I just try to respect everyone. I try to live and let live.

There are a few but we play nice with each other.

Oh yes, there are a few. In particular, at least one global warming denier. Actually, I'll give him credit; he's admitted that industry is responsible for 3-5% of climate change. We are making progress.

Edit: ahh, I see he's already been to this thread. I'll let you find him.

@VirginCotton Don't kid yourself. There's smugness to go all around.

@VirginCotton The funny thing about people like you is you often don't get the irony of your own statement. So yeah, I feel smug.

@VirginCotton Ooh, that was a clever comeback.

Why do you ask?

I am a flaming liberal but believe in a swiftly-administered death penalty.........would that make me partially conservative?

You and me both

I'm against capital punishment, but it has more to do with how it is far to often used racially. OTOH, if a man is an uncontrollable murderer, no doubt he's had a rough upbringing, but he is now a threat to society at large. It is tragic.

totally. that would mean you give abject trust to the judges and lawyers. VERY conservative

@markdevenish No, to the jury!

I disagree for several reasons. 1) routine abuse. Not just by China. The plea bargain system uses the threat of the death penalty to hammer innocent people into false confessions. 2) It's irreversible. If you get it wrong (an estimated, using various evidence not just guesswork, 48% of people on death row are innocent) how do you make amends? 3) It dehumanise the state, thus dehumanising the state's inhabitants, us. 4) It denies the guilty any opportunity at rehabilitation. 5) It's an easy way out for the guilty. Let them serve their time.

More than I would like to see. although I do sometimes enjoy the debates.

You’ll never know.

By level 5... our commando squad identify them and make them accident prone.

Probably, atheism (or agnosticism) doesn't preclude conservatism, tho I do find that most tend towards a humanist viewpoint & tend to be more progressive.

Everyone is welcome...as long as they play nice 🙂

Considering the behavior demonstrated by many people in the conservative movement these days, it's very difficult to, in good conscience, justify so much nefarious action and bad behavior without having a man in the sky to figuratively pat one on the back and say that it's all cool and it all makes sense.

You won't find too many conservatives among athiests. An athiest conservative doesn't need a god to cover up for being an a-hole. An athiest conservative will tell you they're an a-hole straight to your face and not give a crap what you think about it. There aren't too many folks out there who wish to go through life knowing very well that they lack any sort of moral compass and have the onions to walk around with it printed on their forehead. Most want to be seen as good, upstanding citizens.

So, no. You won't find many conservatives around these parts.

Ayn Rand. I believe the most famous conservative atheist of all time. Funny how Christian right GOP politicians have taken on some of her beliefs. I believe Paul Ryan is actually a bit of a fan of hers. That could be just gossip though. No I'm not a fan of hers.

The perfect example of the conservative athiest. No moral compass and she didn't give a damn what anybody thought about it. Ayn Rand was a true, pure sociopath.

Your profile says you are a free thinker. As you are asking about Conservatives, are you free thinking about everything, or just right wing stuff? I only ask because there are many types of people here. If you’re not open to think of different things in different ways, you might not enjoy mingling here. But there are definitely Conservatives among us.

It's a bit like asking are their any Believers around. I BELIEVE things, but......

I have a mathematics degree and my observation is that the progression to each level is an application of the exponential function.

There are a few. Just a tiny percentage, but they are here.

Libertarian... bordering on anarchist

And that describes me as well! I had a guy a few weeks ago that called me 'Liberal'. I told him that was the other side of a monolithic coin that insures nothing gets done, therefore I vote Libertarian, LOL.

Don't you love when people try to pigeonhole you? I honestly am at the point where I may have voted for the last time as even the 3rd parties are looking no different than the two major ones.

I'm an old fuddy duddy with good old fashioned views and attitudes.

Seriously, what do you mean by Conservative? I might be, but maybe not. Please define your parameters.

0

I'm conservative on some issues and liberal on others.

0

Quite conservative in a lot of my views.
