I wanted to post this recent surprise that I got after moving to NM! Life must go on, in spite of trump! But, I got a major surprise today when I found out my credit score is impacted ‘by an extraordinary life circumstance that has occurred within the last 3 years.’ This information came from Geico, concerning my lowered credit score! Here is what they are reporting will affect a credit score...
“-an acute or chronic medical condition, illness, injury or disease. -divorce. -death of a spouse, child or parent. -involuntary loss of employment for more than three consecutive months. -identity theft or total or other loss that makes your home uninhabitable.”
I have always placed a high value on my credit score, but this is ridiculous! I am questioning this new reduction in my score as nothing has really changed, except my back operation at the beginning of 2017. And, my medical should be protected for privacy reasons! I also plan to protest to the Insurance commissioner in this state! What has others done in this situation?

I am big on protecting my score also.

That said, if you don't think you will have a NEED for credit a healthy credit score (i.e. home loan, vehicle, new rental agreement, or other major debt) in the next couple of years, a drop in your score does NOT matter.

Now, if your insurance premium increased significantly, that is, indeed, a concern.

Otherwise, chock it up to the twisted inner workings we cannot control and trust that it will return to its healthy state.

We can hope!

This whole credit economy isn’t very old, from the 70’s or 80’s, and has made things worse. Get everything you want with money you haven’t earned yet, such a piece of shit society we’ve made...

The entire credit score situation is a scam. The credit bureaus have gotten completely out of control and affect our lives in ways that they should not. Companies of all types use the scores to gouge us. The entire reporting system should be abolished.

I agree. It's especially rough on young people. Having to pay much higher premiums, double and triple rent deposits, etc.

The good folks who wrote HIPAA (Hilary's Insane Plan Assuring Anarchy) made sure that Insurance Companies, their underwriters, and "business associates" would have ready access to your "protected health information" even though a paramedic or ER physician can't get it for treatment purposes in the event of an emergency. There is also no standard remedy for errors in the system, either.

My own credit score (and access to health insurance) was influenced by the health history of A DIFFERENT "Micheal McCabe" who evidently has a variety of psychological problems, lives in or near Erie County, PA, and has done business with Blue Cross / Blue Shield. I know this because of (a) My credit report and 🍺 I was rejected for health insurance because of "pre-existing conditions." (This was before the Affordable Care Act.) Mind you, the only health history I have is a bout of pneumonia several years ago and a history of mild obesity. There is no way that I've found to challenge this mis-identification or incorrect information.

To summarize: HIPAA only protects you from the release of personal health information by/for participating providers. GEICO, TransUnion, and CorporateCare are covered as "business associates" of your healthcare provider and can get whatever they want.

Have a nice day, and thank you for shopping at K-Mart!

This cannot have anything to do
With HIPAA! Your credit score should not be based on things outside our control...”extraordinary life circumstances,” that is like penalizing us for being alive! This letter clearly states that it “adversely impacted,” my credit score!

@Freedompath You said, in your last paragraph, "And, my medical should be protected for privacy reasons!" I simply telling you that's not the case. Further, your credit score is almost always based on things beyond your control -- despite what the right-wing assholes think, social and economic forces are almost always beyond your control... Medical Bills are a leading cause of bankruptcy... A "Credit Score" is just a tool for predatory lenders, anyway.

@Freedompath I hate that extraordinary life experience shit happening in life..?

@Charlene if this keeps up, we will be penalized for being alive! Lol

@Freedompath we already are, Raygun was the dirtbag prez that decided to tax our S.S.I..

I don't see why you should get worried about your credit score...

Denker Level 7 June 27, 2018

Because, your credit score affects, other areas besides credit..,I don’t need any credit! All your insurance premiums! I have always had a score in the 800s, now out of the blue, I must pay more than 160.00 a year, extra for car insurance...because my score dropped. The GOP are working with lobbyists is my guess...in order to get higher premiums.

@Freedompath that seems very unfair, I don’t think it’s reasonable at all. Your credit score is affected by all kinds of things like any court judgments against you which shouldn’t impact the likelihood of you making an insurance claim. Bunch of crooks if you ask me.

@Freedompath Without a doubt, time to switch.

@BlueWave vote DemSocialist, vote often..
