Will the rise in gender neutral toys and clothing lead to a bland future ? Almost a dystopian drone society ?
Just watched the giver I think the begining of the film kinda shows what I was thinking when I made this post ... Banning everything so everyone confirms
It merely makes all toys more accessible to all genders because the toys aren’t placed in gender silos with societal barriers to access.
It’s the opposite of banning. I know a mom that worried she “ruined” her little boy child because he showed interest in her makeup. So she “banned” him from it and made sure she didn’t do her makeup around him.
That is what gender marketing of toys currently does.
Boys shouldn't play with baby dolls or toy kitchens. It's not like they should grow up to be loving father's or know how to cook a basic meal.
Girls shouldn't play with guns, because everyone knows they'll never have a future in the military or police force.
Seriously, did you THINK before posting this drivel?!
Nah. It won't be the toys and clothing that'll cause it.
If anything it will lead to a better society where people can grow up not stuck to gender stereotypes. Where a little girl can wear boys clothes and play with superhero comicbook action figures without being told "those are for boys, you are gonna grow up to be a lesbian like that" and where boys can like dolls and dresses without being shamed for it. I see a happier, healthier world where value is placed less on what's in your pants and more on what's in your heart
I cannot see how allowing children to truly be themselves without guilt, bullying, and shame could lead to a dystopian society of conformity. If anything reinforced stereotypes and forcing kids to hide themselves in order to fit in and avoid bullying is much more smothering dystopia than anything.
So you ASSume unless one is defined by what current USA thought calls "male" or "female" that there is no other distinction between individuals? Sounds kinda silly when I put it that way, no?
Not assuming anything . Just asking a question . Remember when you point a finger three are always pointing back
I don't think so. Lego is already gender neutral. Have we reached the Handmaid's Tale?
Well I mean we are getting close. After all trump would love that.
I think breaking out of the traditional gender roles has made for more interesting toy playing. My daughter can alternate between having a nice tea party, or playing superheroes, or having superheroes over for tea.
Up until about 30-40 years ago, most children's toys weren't gender-specific.
I thought toy soldiers had been around for centuries
@Simon1
why can’t girls play with toy soldiers?
Just because a toy exists and society has a gendered cultural connotation associated with it doesn’t mean it has to be a boy toy or a girl toy. Why can’t it just be a toy?
I played with barbies and I played with action figures. It allowed me to be more creative not less creative.
No, it means l can wear those adorable pumps and matching purse in public without being shunned. ☺
You Go! Want to meet to shop?
@AnneWimsey Of course. I am actually a good shopping companion. When l have a feel for a womans style l will look for other items while she is trying something on.
