Well they're wicked long lines for one. Actually I have no clue how they are, we had a major falling out a few years back and haven't spoken since.
They're there cause a bunch of tripped out Incans high on shrooms got freaky with some sticks.

The prevailing theory is that they were built by humans to signal their sky gods. Each symbol could represent individual sky gods.
