"Half a dozen" is a really ineffective way of saying "six".

Six of one half a dozen of the other

Love that saying

Up next on Sesame Street. Everything you wanted to know about six but were too afraid to ask.

While on topic, www uses more syllables than saying world wide web. Save our resources! One day, our children are going to ask us why we used up all the syllables and left them none to work with!

It is? Why lol?

Too wordy.

Ineffective? I dunno.
It would seem to be the appropriate terminology when talking about eggs or donuts, especially if you need say... three and a half dozen.
Certainly a little inefficient if simply asking for six pencils.
Although, given how similar it sound & looks to another word, "half a dozen" might reduce some confusion. ie: half a dozen toys. <Bobby, get thoes six toys off the table.> ?

As is "seven".

And while we're at it: why do we not say 2/3 dozen?

And (16)^(1/2)! Is an odd way of saying Four!

When you're right you're right.
