Type 2 diabetes.

Having acquired T2D about six years ago and at present controlling it by diet alone, I would be interested if anyone here that may also have it, have successfully reversed their condition?

I had a predisposition due to genetics on my winning the lottery in getting T2D. I have never been overweight, though I did carry a wee beergut in my younger days.

I've read countless articles on the very real possibility this condition can be halted and reversed. I'm currently keeping my condition under control by abstinence ( teetotaler now ) from alcohol and eating good home made meals etc.

I've suffered severe ill health this last 3.5 years due to Osteomyelitis and MRSA on several occasions. This has resulted in the big toe and then my second toe being amputated. Recently another bone section had to be removed off the 2nd metatarsal due to a bone spur/growth that had grown downwards and had been poking a hole through the bottom of my foot.

This of course has halted my weightlifting and walking regime for the last 8 months. Walking again might prove difficult, time will tell whether this last operation has worked and deformation on my bone structure halted. I plan to resume weights again in the near future to continue my battle against T2D.

I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who is successfully winning against T2D and reversing it. It would be a boon to me mentally, knowing it can actually be done.

Thank you

Mine isn't completely reversed yet but I did get myself off insulin. After I left my husband in 2013 and got a job and health insurance, the first time I went to the doc my A1c was over 11. He immediately put me on insulin. By that time I'd been diabetic for a good 13 years.

Around the same time I moved into a building with two perfect walking tracks. An indoor track with up and down staircases and a nice sidewalk around the outside of the building. It took awhile but I lost enough to get off insulin. I walked for quite a few months but I wore out my shoes and haven't found a pair I'm happy with yet.

Right now I take Metformin. My last two A1c's were 5.9 and 6.2.

For me using the meter, and the scales and food diary helped me figure out the specific foods I need to avoid. They are potatoes, bananas, grapes and orange juice. A small order of fast food french fries will make my blood sugar go up and stay up for a full 3 days and I'll gain 2 to 3 pounds.

Good girl well done. I was doing well myself until I got Staph several times and made unable to walk...or do anything really. Especially up here in the bush...its a great walk lol...so peaceful and quiet.

A lot of mine is stress related too. Dealing with so many fracturing parts of my life drove the sugar spikes all over the shop.

Keep up the good work mate...you're doing very well.

I don't have diabetes, but my dr. put me on the keto diet for female issues and weight loss. As I've done research, it is incredible how many people are beating diabetes with low carb/ keto diet. Watch the magic pill on Netflix. I'm not sure how it would affect your other health issues, so talk to your drs. But it sounds like its definately worth looking into!!!

Interval training...drops Ac1 like a stone.

Yeh I'm looking into that Anne. I'm still not able to get around much due to my foot and MRSA lingering lol.

My last bloods came back @ 6.3 and have been steady for quite a few years at that level. Getting the last little podge off the midriff will certainly aid in my goal. I'm only 74kg but have been sedentary for three years due to my foot hasn't helped.

Thanks ?

@Bullet6813 rowing machine...lots of full body work but not hard on the body

@AnneWimsey You're reading my mind aren't you? Lol. I'm looking into that one, things aren't cheap over here 😟 I've been on social security for a few years because of MRSA. Barely enough eat at present.

Thank you ?

@Bullet6813 yard sales, craig's list....practically free, and usually mostly unused!

@AnneWimsey Don't even have money to get into the city districts mate, my Mum and I have to pool money just for diesel. I know what you're saying though...seems everybody only uses them once.

I haven't reversed it but with a sensible diet and better weight/height ratio have reduced the meds and the spin off problems like retinal stuff. As others have commented lowering/reducing carbs is the key as far I can see as well as sugars obviously 🙂

Its not anything i know very much about however I did recently hear an edition of the bbc's Food programme where a man had reversed his diabetes by following a low carb diet. I think the gist of it was even if youre avoiding sugar carbs will break down into sugars anyway
