My thoughts on a tabletop gamma laser.. aka a grazer.
stage 1 is a a wave guide accelerator pumped by a gigawatt class laser.
stage 2 is a fel converting the kev e- to Mwatt level.
stage3.. this is the hard part since it needs a xray fresnel lens(they don't exist yet)..xlaser!
stage 4 the xlaser hits the nuclear material.. (Ha or Tc).. releasing gammas.

melts planets..or coupled with a detecter.. finds planets...coupled to a mass source aĺows interstellar travel.
