I know immigration has been a heated topic of discussion in my country (USA), but I've observed a persistent double standard when said topic comes up, and in particular on this site where "freethinkers" are supposed to be present. I've arrived to a point where I'm sick and tired of all the division this is causing among my fellow country men and women. I came across this article from Salon, which is hardly a conservative source, and there are other liberal-based media sources who had articles on the same topic- [salon.com]
The Clinton Administration laid the groundwork for deportation of illegal immigrants and border enforcement, and Obama only further enforced the laws, and yet Trump gets called racist for supporting what were liberal Democrat laws. I know I'm not the only one on this site who is aware of the double standard on that issue, and my fellow Americans need to realize that the two party monopoly in our country by and large does not care about the average citizen. More people need to do their own research and stop automatically believing whatever is mentioned on the television. This post was meant to be an eye opener, to prove that Democrat policies have indeed hurt people and continue to do so. Do research with an open mind and be willing to accept that what you were led to believe as truth may not be so in reality, I did just that with religion and my life is better for doing so. I'm tired of the misinformed constantly bickering with those who are aware of what's going on, and if anyone leaves snide or degrading remarks on this post meant to avoid or deflect the evidence shared above, I will block them.
Can you point to the specific clause in the 1996 law that forces the separation of families seeking asylum? I don't see it in the link you provided. After all, that's what the uproar from across the political spectrum was about after the new policy went in to place this year. Thank you.
The point was Clinton laid the groundwork for what we have now, I don't care about what was specifically mentioned otherwise.
@SpikeTalon The groundwork for what we have now was established in 1787 with Article I, section 8, clause 4 of the Constitution. But that wasn't specifically mentioned, so who cares?
@AlPastor If you don't care, then there's no need to continue coming back to this post then...
@SpikeTalon Of course my "so who cares?" was a figure of speech response to you saying "I don't care about what was specifically mentioned otherwise" With that we are left with a simpleton's meme on the complex issue of immigration law and a silly rant. I can see why you would want to exclude any real and pertinent information from history.
However, I appreciate your encouragement to "Do research with an open mind and be willing to accept that what you were led to believe as truth may not be so in reality." I wonder how often people follow their own advice? Anyway, thank you and good day.
@AlPastor There is nothing silly about the truth, and the only aim of this post was to show that the issue with immigration started way before Trump was elected President. This also wasn't a rant. I do take my own advice, at one point years ago I thought like the liberals did in regards to immigration, but upon looking into it further I realized they were dead wrong, their thoughts clouded by wild emotions. You accuse me of excluding "pertinent" info from this post, yet obviously you don't want to take into consideration that the liberal left is no innocent when it comes to the immigration debate. Now, how exactly do we go about making changes to immigration policies is another topic, but that much wasn't the topic of discussion for this post though.
@AlPastor Also, in case you didn't notice I didn't get alot of feedback on this post....because people know I have a solid point here, and said topic makes quite a few folks uncomfortable.
And from the predominantly left wing liberals of this site, all we get is crickets chirping..
