How many holocausts, and how many genocides have there been since records began
Far more than have been recorded. Ethnic cleansing is still a problem all over Africa and Central and South America even into the last few decades, and even not counting the Crusades, witch hunts, Inquisitions, the whole nazi debacle, Stalin's entire regime, Pol Pot...genocide is an old and prolific problem.
In the whole earths history of humans, about 100 billion have lived and died.
About 260 million people have been killed by authorized in the last century around the globe.
Making authorities the number one murderer on the planet.
Would you include the great flood?
no I think this is more about what people do to other people to kill or subjugate them a flood is a natural disaster.
The great flood would made God the greatest genocidal, Holocaust, and by far the greatest murderer of all time. Stomping out 99% of all species and all but 6 humans.
God can do no wrong.
@Castlepaloma that’s what I was talking about.
As many as prior to records began... plus add those omitted from records. Many relabeled as Discovery, Colonization, Anexation, etc, etc, etc. Race, Religion, Greed... it was all good for the Empires that be. If you don't look Taino, Apache, Maya, Aztec, Inca, Caribe, Cherokee, etc, etc, etc... you shouldn't have a say!!!! I don't see you returning the land back to the rightful heirs. Let's make it easy... if you are ameriKKKan... return Puerto Rico back to the Puertorricans... eliminate the island off your books. That's a start... anything else is hypocrisy.
Sadly they are still happening in many parts of the world. And very close to happening in many others, including ours. When you have a leader who can obliterate people’s sense of reality like Trump does to his devoted followers, the path to violence and genocide is short. I thankfully feel that our country has the moral strength to overcome the ignorance, but it may come at a cost.
Too many to count: I had no idea.
I was appalled and crying too ; the question came up for me because a jewish M.P in our parliament is trying to call the leader of our opposition anti-semitic - he is a kind moderate man and as far as anyone can see he opposes the killing of `Palestinian people and makes no comment about Israelis (that I know about) I started looking for stories and found too many. I now live in Northern Ireland and remember going to the South to the Famine exhibition there and being really touched about the history of the potato famine and how those people would have also starved to death
@jacpod We can’t live in perpetual sorrow. Maybe we should just view it as a part of nature—organisms competing against other organisms.
I lean toward thinking that our bodies are just robots, nicely made but unaware and expendable. and that our true and higher selves are immortal by default, existing united as universal consciousness.
@WilliamFleming yes thats a good way to look at it - thank you!
Way too many to even record. It's a constant process of our species.
