What is the oddest food you've ever eaten? Would you eat it again?
I ate a fly...I guess I'll die...
Did it wriggle and wiggle and tiggle inside you? Did you swallow a spider?
I'm on the last course..my goodness a horse!
LucyLoohoo I like Youyou.
Durian! While in Borneo, I thought I should try a durian fruit, since it's orangutans' favorite food. It's the one and only time I've ever spit food right out of my mouth while at the table! Take my advice...DO NOT TRY DURIAN!
@NerdyOkieDude They were serving it at a dinner, welcoming us to Borneo. HAHAHAHAHA Maybe they really wanted us to leave?
Dry shark. As a baby I was told I ate chalk. But makes me wonder... any true cannibals here?
Jellyfish. It looked and felt like snot, tasted like the ocean. I will not be eating it again.
Yucky
I was in Phuket Thailand in the early 1990`s 3 of the oddest food I have ever come across. The first one was stir-fried mice the other was candied palmetto bugs which are basically flying cockroaches. From the faces of death movie the had a segment on monkey brains. There is an actual restraunt that have clamps in the table where they bring the live monkey in crack the skull and people eat the monkeys brains. I never could try any of these strange things they however do exist
I love thai food. Especially in Thailand. But there are some things even I won't eat in Thailand because of the way they kill the animals. Monkey brains is one of those things.
I like peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches which I gather is pretty odd. Many years ago had squirrel at my step mother's family's house. Now squirrel isn't odd but having it for breakfast was new to me. Would I eat it again? If visiting and it was set before me yes. I was taught to be polite.
Can't say I've eaten squirrel ??
@Sirena Kentucky, foothills of the Smoky s. That was before they built that bloody ark in Ky. Now the squirrels have all fled to Tennessean. I don't think squirrels are domesticated so someone has to go shoot them.
One of my uncles used to like peanut butter, banana and mayonnaise salad. So--I'd make it for him every time he visited. It's not awful....
Aha, not awful just terrible. I get you. That was nice of you to make him the salad.
@Nakiarogue interesting. I didn't realize the Ark harmed the ecosystem.. It's on my list of things I never want to see ?
@Sirena There are a few videos I have seen but here is one of the early ones of the opening of the thing..
A British hot dog - absolutely not. I liked most of the food while I was there, but that was like somebody stuffed soggy corn flakes in a hotdog casing, then put that in a bun. Picked up a frozen game pie from the store once. That was excellent! On the side of the box was a warning: "This product many contain some lead shot." I took it as a sign of authenticity.
duck tongue, shark lips, snake soup...
I will avoid in the future..
@seattlepanda good plan!
@seattlepanda yeah, wow
Was it tonguing and kissing you back?
Brrrrvvva brrrr
In Korea I was a guess for two weeks. First time sat down on the floor and was served up catfish, seaweed and fish eyes. They thought it was rude I was picking at it. So the daughter shoved this food into my mouth faster than I could chew it, most of it was swallowed.
Never again.
?
Sushi. And no.
Love sushi!
@Sirena
Yuck
My parents were country people, both children of the great depression. You did not say no to good on the table. We raised hogs, rabbits, chickens, fished & hunted. That said:
Pig tails, ears & fresh trotters. Oh & pig brains.
squirrel, including the brains. (Its a trend)
Salt fish, herring & shad roe.
Rabbit (uber lean chicken with 4 legs)
Aligator tail
Snapping turtle
You can eat snapping turtle?!
@Sirena according to Cajuns, there are 7 different meats on a turtle. I cannot attest to that but it was damn tasty.
Tarantula in Smale, Cambodia. A bit like a hairy prawn. I wouldn't seek it out - too much effort for a small return.
Been thinking about making Cambodia my next big trip. I hear good things about it, and Thailand is getting too expensive for my meager pocket book.
@webbew1 unless you have a beach addiction, I preferred Laos - beautiful, unspoilt and chilled people. But that was 17 years ago...
LOL! I have an asian women addiction. But the beach is pretty cool too.
"Koco Rec" in Turkey. (I'm sure the spelling is wrong) Cow intestine, finely chopped and highly seasoned, served on a sandwich roll. From a side of the road food cart in Istanbul. Delicious. Late night drinking food.
Dog, while in the military in Asia. It was OK.
I ate an bovine eyeball once. Yech! ?
mmmmmm....why?
@LucyLoohoo
Taco server in TJ thought he would have a little fun with his gringo customer.
@Flyingsaucesir I wonder if you tipped him?
@LucyLoohoo
I think a look of disgust on my face was the reward he was hoping for. He was not disappointed! ?
