Do you or did you ever have someone in your life whose pets you liked better than the person(s)?

I used to be friends with and visit a woman from work. There were cracks in the friendship until it shattered completely a couple of years ago. I don't miss seeing her or her husband, but, boy, do I miss visiting her cats.

A long time ago, I dated a woman with a couple of parrots. Omar, the male, was a prick. But Trixie, I really liked her and she seemed to like me too. She'd hop up on my shoulder and nuzzle me. That liaison lasted about 4 months, and Trixie is long gone (or maybe not, they live a long time from what I understand). I still think about her every now and again.

I do like a lady friends dogs more than I like her. I'm disappointed when she shows up without them.

It's especially awkward when someone says,"You like my dog more than you like me"and it's true.

@pixiedust I once had a girlfriend who told me that I loved my cat more than her. I didn't reply to that. When we first started getting serious she told me to get rid of the cat. I told her "I've known you 3 months and I've known the cat 7 years". Seniority has it's perks.

@BobbyJaan I hear you on this one! Men often told me I loved my cats better. I used to do the whole clucking, soothing routine to reassure them. Wasn't worth it. Now, I would just say "Well, duh". 😀

Some pets have been in my life longer than family members were.

@pixiedust And they never ask to borrow money.

Willy, my ten year old jack russell mutt had a seizure Sunday night and I had to put him down suddenly. I really thought he had another 5-10 years, unfortunately he didn't.

Today I noticed my other dog carrying Willy's collar around then cuddling with it. Broke my heart.

@educatedredneck You're killing me with that story. I had to put my 16 yr. old Jack Russell down last October. I still can't open the bag the vet gave me with his collar in it. I truly feel your pain and genuine condolences to you.

I usually prefer pets to people. Especially cats.

However, when ti comes to other pets (pets that re not cats), it depends on the pets and/or the people.

That's reasonable. We're an all cat household at the moment. Since we do lots of animal rescues, the population even briefly included a cane toad.
